A Boot Camp for Male Spirituality

Welcome to REAL CATHOLIC MEN, a ministry dedicated to the full and complete spiritual formation of Catholic men.

As Catholic men we have for too long been silent, absent or non-committal when it comes to our faith. This starts within ourselves and extends to our families, friends, and beyond. Society and sin has twisted God's definition of "masculinity" to be synonymous with "power", "money", "domination", or "sexual prowess". Our God-given role as men is to be the spiritual heads of our households, "ruling" with love, honor and compassion for everyone.

REAL CATHOLIC MEN, for lack of a better term, is a "military movement" to get men off their spiritual rear-ends and take a front-line role in the formation and protection of their Catholic faith and families. There is no greater call than to "go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations". In fact, it was called the Great Commission. But before we can go and do battle, we must stay and prepare.

REAL CATHOLIC MEN offers a comprehensive plan for men as individuals, or men's spirituality groups of any size, incorporating the Biblical foundation of the role of men in the Church as illustrated by St. Joseph's Covenant Keepers, along with Apologetics, Scripture and Catechism study, and an active participation within our families, churches and greater society. Plus a healthy dose of loving, in-your-face, personal challenges that can turn regular Catholic men into REAL CATHOLIC MEN.

In short, it is a boot camp for male spirituality. This is not a social club. This is "putting on the armor of God" and waging war for the hearts, minds and souls of ourselves, and those around us.

Program

In order to get the full effect of the REAL CATHOLIC MEN ministry and its program, you must be willing to do three things before you continue:

  1. You must be OPEN to hearing the it TRUTH when is spoken.
  2. You must be willing to ACCEPT the TRUTH into your heart and pray to the Holy Spirit that you may believe what you are hearing.
  3. You must be willing to REVEAL the TRUTH in how you live your life before others.

We are paddling upstream when it comes to waging the war against sin, but with this mighty O.A.R., it'll be like we're in a high-powered speedboat.

The REAL CATHOLIC MEN system consists of three parts: Part I includes the Biblical foundation of our masculinity and our renewed calling as men. Part II is an ongoing education in our faith, which will give us more knowledge and confidence in living out our lives. Part III calls us to a continuous life of faith that never rests or becomes secondary to us. It is the complete acceptance of the Great Commission and all it entails.

So... are you ready to enlist?

Purpose and Function:

  1. To teach Catholic men the Bible-based roles that they were created to fulfill within their families and the greater society through the study of Sacred Scripture, Catechesis and Apologetics.
  2. To give Catholic men a better understanding of their faith for the salvation of their own souls and the souls of their families, and to equip them with the tools to better defend their faith amongst non-believers and/or detractors.
  3. To act as a support system for fellow men against the barrage of sexual and purity-based attacks from the Enemy. This includes, but is not limited to stances against the following:
    • Pornography
    • Pre-marital sexual relations
    • Explicit or implicit sexual behavior and images within our society
    • Abortion
    • Contraception
    • Same-sex relationships/marriage
    • Sexual abuse (adult and childhood)
    • Domestic violence
  • And stances for the following:
    • Abstinence
    • Sacrament-based marriages
    • Adoption
    • Natural Family Planning
    • Life causes

Real Catholic Men is open to all baptized Catholic men who are willing to listen and heed the call of God in their lives as protectors of the Faith and the family throughout our world.

A Personal Note from the Founder of REAL CATHOLIC MEN:

I am not an expert on this subject by any means. I definitely fall short of my calling as a Catholic man. And that's exactly the reason why I started this ministry. We can (and are even called to) help each other achieve the Kingdom of Heaven. And there are people out there who have a better handle of how to do that than myself. We need to utilize their gifts and talents, so that we can become a light to others. I know where I need to go - I'm just not sure how to get there. Won't you please join me as we journey to make ourselves exactly what God intended from the beginning of time?

David J. Renshaw was born in San Diego, California. He attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas where he received a degree in Film and Television Production. After working for a number of years in the entertainment industry in Los Angeles, David moved north. He now resides in the Portland, Oregon area with his wife, Heather, their three children: Ava, Elise, and Noah. His family attends St. Cecilia parish in Beaverton, and St. Matthew in Hillsboro. Both David and Heather are active in a lay movement for married couples called Teams of Our Lady.
